Arsenal of Tools

I think in every web developers toolbox should be a list of items that they find indispensable. Or at the very least, add some great value from time to time. Here's a few from my list:

  • Zoom Search Engine: This is a javascript-based search engine. Now for most, this may silly but having developed a few HTML-based CD-ROM's now, this has come in quite handy. It works just like most search engines and comes in much cheaper than a lot of Java-based ones out on the market.
  • AFRename: For those times you have a bunch of files in a directory and you need to rename them. This free tool is quick and easy to use. Definitely comes in handy!
  • HTML Splitter: It can take an HTML file and split it into a file of it's own by cutting at each header (your choice of H1, H2, or H3). HTML Splitter alone has saved me many hours of cutting and pasting.

In the end, spending the time to find the tool can save us time. Like the adage: you gotta spend money to make money.
